Weekend of August 15 – 17, 2014
Grand Island New York
We will meet again! This time in Grand Island, New York, about 15 minutes down I – 190 from the border crossings at Queenston_Lewiston and Niagara Falls (if there’s long a lineup, try the Peace Bridge at Fort Erie-Buffalo for a half hour more driving and less time idling at the border!).
This promises to be a big event since there must be a couple of thousand of our group in southwestern Ontario. (I have even discovered two D’Orazios right here on Grand Island) Some attendees may want to spend the 48-hour duty-free period in the U.S. While others may prefer to just make it a day trip.
Grand Island
Some of our paesani have links to the area. Luigina Emanuele (my grandfather’s cousin) lived most of her life in Niagara Falls NY with her husband Amante Silvestrone (my grandmother’s cousin) and passed away in 2003 at the age of 108 less 23 days. 21-year-old Caterina Frascella (Mrs. Frank Celli) of Vancouver arrived at Ellis Island on her way back to Buffalo from a trip to Italy accompanied by her 7-month old son Fiore Domenico (Floyd?) on New Year’s Eve, 1909! Her daughter Maria Giuseppina, (aka “Jay” and “Jessie”) was born and raised there before moving to Vancouver with her husband Fioredimare Marini.
Others headed for Buffalo in those days included Pasquantonio, Salvati, Silveri, Palineri, Di Giovambattista, Dionisi amd Lancione but most of these names do not appear currently in the local phone books.
Location: Knights of Columbus
Our gatherings will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1841 Whitehaven Rd On the
Friday evening, we’ll have pizza and wine (or whatever other beverages are preferred – the bar will be open and the prices modest. (No alcohol may be brought in from off premises).

On Saturday we picnic outdoors behind the hall. Again, the bar will be open. (No alcohol may be brought in)
