My connection to Abruzzo
Quote from irene on 2 October 2022, 9:21 pmMy Father, Domenico (Dick) De Luca was born in Villa Santa Lucia in 1906 and emigrated in 1922, at the age of 16 to Canada. His brothers included Guerino (a casualty of the war) Nicola (Tony) who he had sponsored to come to Canada in 1948 and Diamante who was still living there.
I am the middle child of Dick and Stella (Ciccone) De Luca who he married when she was 18, a first generation Canadian/Italian.
My father returned with his wife and his youngest (Jennifer) to La Ville (his name for his birthplace) in 1958 for the first time. The town, when he left in 1922, was alive and well, but on his return he was astounded at the changes. WW2 and the mass emigration of the 50’s had changed things forever.
