San Nicandro and Civitaquana
Quote from faustbos on 28 October 2022, 9:48 pmMy Great Grandfather, born in Villa Santa Lucia, is the first ancestor on my father's father's side to come to America, however, my family is actually originally from San Nicandro near L'aquila. My Great Great Grandfather left San Nicandro, I'm told, after he killed a bandit who was terrorising the hamlet. (there is a name for these, but I can't recall what it is, they were against the unification of Italy and too matters into their own hands). Anyway, the Baron of San Nicandro was fond of my GG Grandfather so he allowed him to be banished, which is how he ended up in Villa. I guess that was sufficient banished. My Great Grandfather was born in Villa, and later migrated to Civitaquana. From there is where he emigrated to the USA: My Grandfather was born in Civitquana, and came to America when he was 4 and half years old.
It made finding Calderone name in Villa quite simple as to my knowledge, my family is the only one.
