Connecting to the internet, G4 or G5 mobile technologies, can be quite expensive, especially if your phone subscription is from the US or Canada. Please be sure to check with your service provider before you get to Italy. For those in the EU, mobile rates should be the same as they are locally.
Depending on where you are staying, you may have access to Wifi. You may want to try using an internet based communication tool. For instance you can make voice and video calls using facebook to other facebook users. Another popular tool you can use is WhatsApp. You can find WhatsApp and a host of other calling apps in the Apple iStore or on Android’s Play Store. Below is a list of some common apps. Just make sure anyone you may want to call while abroad is using the same app.
